A glorious safari with near perfect conditions
It doesn’t happen every year but when it does we enjoy every moment. The rain had been heavy and towards the end of January the sunshine returned, the driving and hiking were in near perfect conditions, the wildlife was simply stunning. This safari with a group of 8 was just the tonic I needed as well. Celebrating such a trip is a pleasure and as I was very pleasantly surprised by conditions in the Ngorongoro Crater as well I’d call this a near perfect February safari. We started at Arusha National Park, went on to stay at the Lemala Camp on the North Eastern rim of the Crater, continued to Olakira Camp at Ndutu and then enjoyed three nights in the Loliondo concession area. We saw wild dogs at Lake Masek, umpteen lions and great cheetahs as well as some of the very best bird scenes I have enjoyed for years. 10’s of thousands of storks had descended on these areas to eat the explosion of caterpillar numbers and they filled the skies when going to roost at dusk.
Here I share some images of our safari and I think we will do it all again- next year same time! Yes please!
Walking the highlands near Ngorongoro
Lemala Camp is beautifully sited.
Young animals were everywhere we went, as were butterflies
But the walking in Loliondo was every ones favorite
Going, going …..gone!
I’m off for a 25 day birding trip; conditions are excellent as we have just enjoyed some more rain and the African sun is shining brightly into my office window as I write ( Feb 22, 2010).
